Why you'll love it
- Make the most of your time in Rome with easy round-trip transfers, guided underground visits, and the freedom to choose the experience that best matches your interests.
About this experience
The Rome Underground Tour uncovers the hidden stories beneath the city. You walk through ancient catacombs and early Christian burial sites. Depending on your option, you then descend through the layers of a medieval basilica, or visit the Colosseum and the Roman Forum.
Part one of your Rome Underground Tour: the catacombs
You meet your guide at Via dei Serpenti 114, in Monti. A comfortable transfer takes you to the Catacombs of Domitilla. On a guided tour, you explore the underground tunnels, burial chambers and early frescoes, and hear how Christians lived and worshipped in ancient Rome.
Option 1: the Basilica of San Clemente
With the Catacombs and San Clemente option, you descend through three historical layers of Rome. A 12th-century basilica sits on top of a 4th-century church, which sits on ancient Roman buildings. It is one of the most fascinating places in the city.
Option 2: the Colosseum and Roman Forum
With the Catacombs and Colosseum option, you get skip-the-line entry to the Colosseum and explore at your own pace with a multilingual audio guide. The same ticket includes the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. Bring your own smartphone and headphones. Please note: the Colosseum underground is not included.
