The Mount Vesuvius Tour lets you stand on the rim of the volcano that buried Pompeii. It is one of the most memorable experiences in southern Italy, and easier than most people expect.
Your tour manager meets you at the scheduled pickup point closest to your accommodation, between 11:00 and 11:45 AM (see the timetable in your confirmation). A comfortable van takes you up the mountain to about 1,000 meters above sea level, with commentary on the way.
From the parking area, you hike along a natural trail that winds up to the edge of the crater. Along the path you learn about the volcano's geological history and the rich variety of plants and animals that live in this unique environment. A volcanologist guide is available inside the site to answer questions.
At the rim, you are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the Bay of Naples.
The tour includes lunch at a local restaurant, with traditional dishes made from fresh regional ingredients [CONFIRM]. The whole experience lasts about 4 hours, and then you return to the meeting point.
