About this experience
The Pompeii and Oplontis Tour is for travelers who want depth and real archaeological insight. It follows a route designed to avoid the morning crowds and to bring the ancient sites to life.
Why this Pompeii and Oplontis Tour starts at the museum
Meet your archaeologist at 14:00 in Piazza Municipio, in front of Castel Nuovo. Look for the Show Me Italy flag.
You begin at the Naples National Archaeological Museum. The original frescoes, mosaics, bronzes and household objects from Pompeii and the Vesuvian villas are kept here for protection, which left the sites with empty walls. Most tours skip the museum. We start here, so the ruins later feel full of life instead of bare.
Oplontis and Villa Poppaea
A VIP minivan takes you to Oplontis, a UNESCO-listed Roman villa. Villa Poppaea, traditionally linked to Nero's second wife, is one of the best-preserved imperial villas in the Roman world. Its frescoed walls, garden courtyards and private baths are in remarkable condition. Your archaeologist explains daily life in an elite Roman household.
Pompeii in the late afternoon
Pompeii comes last, when the light is softer and the crowds have gone. You walk a working Roman city of more than 10,000 people. See its forum, baths, theatres, election graffiti, fast-food counters, wheel ruts and the plaster casts of its victims.
Two options
Choose the full combo, or the Pompeii-only option with the same archaeologist, museum visit and meeting point. Round-trip VIP transfer to Naples is included in both.
